The start of the eleventh edition of the Angkor Photo Festival & Workshops, it is one of the most important and popular in Southeast Asia. The objective of the initiative – created in 2005 by a group of photographers and directed by Jean-Yves Navel – is to offer visibility to emerging authors or those little known to the international public and, above all, create a kind of learning platform through which aspiring photographers around the world can come into contact with professionals and improve their photographic skills and knowledge.
The programme of the eleventh edition – to be held in the Cambodian city of Siem Reap from the 5th to 12th December 2015 – is coordinated by Françoise Callier and has seven exhibitions and eight evenings of screenings that, overall, propose the work of over 130 photographers from 45 different countries. The Guest Curator of the edition will be Wy Kevin Lee, founder of Invisible Photographer Asia (IPA), who for the occasion has selected the work of 18 photographers from Hong Kong and Taiwan, which will be shown in the screenings during the evening of Wednesday 9th December. The heart of the edition however will be, once again, the Angkor Photo Workshops. It is a series of educational activities, which are completely free, and this year will allow selected participants to work with six exceptional tutors, or rather six internationally renowned photographers such as Antoine D'Agata (Magnum Photos), Sohrab Hura (Magnum Photos), Suthep Kritsanavarin, Patrick De Noirmont, Kosuke Okahara, Ian Teh (Panos Pictures/Agence Vu'). In addition to the workshops for aspiring professional photographers, the portfolio reviews and a new edition of Anjali Photo Workshops, a series of educational activities for children of the Anjali House. The best of the works carried out under this educational project, coordinated by Paolo Patrizi, will be on display on Thursday, 10th December at Phare - The Cambodian Circus of Siem Reap, as part of the Children Day!
An edition that is already very rich and full of interesting ideas, and which sees us involved as media partners. While waiting to get into the programming, and to document it for you, we propose the video presentation produced by the organisation of the event..
