Created 12 years ago, the "people & nature" photo festival of La Gacilly is now one of the biggest outdoor photography festival in France. The festival, commited to sustainable development, presents an ethical photography, humanistic and meaning, based on the relationship between Human and his environment. «For 11 years now – explains Jacques Rocher, Festival founder, Mayor of La Gacilly – the La Gacilly Photo Festival has been able to bring to its visitors images from some of the most famous photographers of our times. It is through the artist’s lens that we are better able to understand the world and its environmental issues».
For its 12th edition – which will continue until September 30th, 2015 in the small town of La Gacilly (Morbihan, Bretagne) – the festival is the official partner of the Expo 2015 and, for this reason, presents three thematic sections related to Italy and to the theme of the Universal Exposition in Milan: Feeding the planet, energy for life. These are: Italian Photography – a tribute to Italian photography and its main protagonists which brings together several exhibitions, such as those dedicated to Piergiorgio Branzi, Franco Fontana, Mario Giacomelli, Alessandro Grassani, Paolo Pellegrin, Mirella Ricciardi, Emanuele Scorcelletti, Massimo Siragusa and Paolo Ventura – Feeding the Planet – which proposes the Milan 2015 Expo Collective, with works by Gianni Berengo Gardin, Irene Kung, Joël Meyerowitz, Martin Parr, Sebastiao Salgado, Alessandra Sanguinetti, Ferdinando Scianna, George Steinmetz and Alex Webb – and Natural Histories, which offers two exhibitions: one by Sarah Moon and one by Vincent Munier.
«On this, the 12th edition, the Photo Festival La Gacilly, always aware of the bond between humankind and the Earth, could not ignore this great exposition (Expo 2015, ndr.) – said Florence Drouhet, Artistic Director of the Festival – We have even formed a partnership with Expo Milan 2015, becoming the Lombard city’s ambassador in Brittany. This explains our decision to devote a lot of space to Italian photography, whilst all the while placing the main emphasis on food-related behaviour on all five continents. An ode to the wonders around us, certainly, but also an invitation to embark upon a journey that will make each of us a more responsible human being».
