Happiness On The Move 2016: the winner

Klaus Pichler is the winner of the fifth edition of Happiness On The Move International Award, organised by Cortona On The Move, and for the third year in collaboration with Consorzio Vino Chianti.

Pichler an Austrian photographer, born in 1977, won thanks to Golden Days Before They End, a work which sheds light on the life around the small taverns that still exist in the Austrian capital. These are places where ordinary people do not usually go and they are often talked about in the news due to violent episodes which happen, such as fights or stabbings. These are rough places where time seems to have stopped and people meet to find some sort of refuge, a real hideout, and a home. As the award says: «Happiness is not only about smiles and smiley faces, a birthday card or a "blue sky", it is also a very complex emotion that touches people in different ways. Klaus Pichler, from Vienna, shows us through the familiar faces and the temporary families of the customers of its bars and pubs, during their casual encounters and daily rituals».

The Award winning ceremony took place Saturday the 16th of July at 10,30 pm at the Palazzo Casali in Cortona, during the opening days of the sixth edition of Cortona On The Move. Klaus Pichler's work will now enter in the exhibition programme of next year's edition of the festival. This year in fact the event will exhibit Futuristic Archaeology by Daesung Lee, winner of last year's edition. His exhibition, produced by Cortona On The Move was opened at the Fortezza del Girifalco on the 15th of July 2016 at 6,30 pm.
