KG+ 2017: open call

It is January 5th, 2017 the deadline to participate in the open call of the KG+ 2017.
KG+ is an art project which started in 2013 with the aim to showcase and support emerging photographers and curators, crossing the boundaries of genre and nationality. As the satellite event of Kyotographie – International Photography Festival, the project serves as a meeting spot for exchanging information between photographers, curators and gallerists from all over the world.

The festival brings together five photographic programs, the first three of which correspond to the categories in competition: KG+ Award, KG+ Solo Show, KG+ Group Show, KG+ Special Exhibition and KG+ Associated Program. With the call for entry – open to everyone, professionals and not, without distinction of age or provenance – KG+ offers participants the opportunity to exhibit their works in Kyoto during the next edition of the festival (April 14th - May 14th, 2017) and to utilize Kyoto city’s potential. But not only. The winner of the Grand Prix, in fact, will be officially invited to participate in the following edition of Kyotographie – International Photography Festival, and will receive a concrete support for participation in portfolio reviews held by internationally renown specialists in the context of the event.

Through improving the quality of artworks, and by promoting many exchanges between participants and specialists from Japan and abroad, KG+ aims to create opportunities that will open doors to the international art scene. More information about the contest is available here.

Amina Okuyeva poses for the photo in a flat she shares with her mother and son. She was on Maidan from December 2014 working as a medical volunteer. In that time her husband was in prison accused of the attempt to kill Russian President Putin. After Euromaidan revolution he was pardoned and together with Amina joined international peacekeeping battalion of volunteers to support Ukraine in fighting against the pro-Russian insurgency.
