Raw Footage

In celebration of its ten-year anniversary, Opera Gallery London presents Raw Footage, a group photography exhibition focusing on the meeting point between editorial and fine art photography, with a gaze tuned towards the body as a tool for both consumerism and sensuality.
Exhibiting works by world-renowned fashion photographers including Mario Testino, David Lachapelle, Paul Solomons, Frederic Aranda and Gerard Rancinan, among others, Raw Footage explores the evolution of fashion photography from the selling of a garment to the manufacturing of an idealized reality. While historically portraiture was used as a way to record and document our existence, fashion photography and its incorporation of the celebrity have become indeed tools to define our contemporary aesthetic, consumer mentality and collective creativity. By presenting a garment or lifestyle as a commercial product, fashion photographers and their collaborators – designers, stylists, models and viewers alike – have adopted the highest level of credibility as disseminators of a moment in cultural history. And it's on this aspect which the exhibition will focus on.
Curated by Jean‐David Malat, the exhibition will be on display at Opera Gallery London from July 1st to 18th, 2015.

Amina Okuyeva poses for the photo in a flat she shares with her mother and son. She was on Maidan from December 2014 working as a medical volunteer. In that time her husband was in prison accused of the attempt to kill Russian President Putin. After Euromaidan revolution he was pardoned and together with Amina joined international peacekeeping battalion of volunteers to support Ukraine in fighting against the pro-Russian insurgency.
