Visible White Photo Prize 2016

We are now open for applications for the 5th edition of Visible White Photo Prize, an international competition dedicated to contemporary photography, which began from the collaboration between Celeste Network and Fondazione Studio Marangoni. The theme chosen for the occasion is Skin, a theme that aims to stimulate and bring out the expressive ability of the participants. Indeed, as explained by the jury presidents Nicoletta Leonardi (professor at the Academia Albertina, Torino) and Lucia Minunno (curator and art historian), «the theme can be approached from different perspectives. You can look at skin to reflect on issues of identity, gender, class, ethnicity, race, ecology, politics and technology addressing topics such as, for example, desire, trauma, ego, aging, torture, submission, multi-sensory, self-injury, tattoos, the different configurations of sexuality, nanotechnology, implants, disease, contamination and infection, geopolitical tensions, the economy, sustainability, digital culture».
The Visible White Photo Prize 2016 is open to both Italian and foreign photographers, artists and creative talents, regardless of age or experience. To participate just register at Celeste Network, on the provided form available here, complying to the competition rules as described and following the steps online to send your works or photographic projects. An international jury – made up of Irene Alison (curator and freelance journalist - Italy), Krzysztof Candrowicz (Triennial Hamburg - Germany), Louise Clements (QUAD - UK), Erik Kessels (Useful Photography - The Netherlands) and Anna-Alix Koffi (OFF the wall Magazine - France) – will select the finalists among all those received, leaving Nicoletta Leonardi and Lucia Minunno the task of choosing the three winners and to announce them during the inauguration of the exhibition dedicated to all finalists for the award, scheduled at FSM Gallery in Florence on 14^th May 2016. The prize is € 2,500 for the winner of the project, € 1,500 for second place and 1,000 € for the winner of the Single Work Award. More information on this is available here.

Amina Okuyeva poses for the photo in a flat she shares with her mother and son. She was on Maidan from December 2014 working as a medical volunteer. In that time her husband was in prison accused of the attempt to kill Russian President Putin.
