Mustafa Sabbagh: who uses whom? 2:03 min

For a personal research on voyeurism Mustafa Sabbagh takes a naked image that unexpectedly transforms the lives of a young couple well beyond his intentions.

Mustafa Sabbagh was born in 1961 in Amman, Jordan, into an Italian-Palestinian family. He graduated in Architecture at the University IUAV of Venice and then moved to London, where he worked as an assistant to Richard Avedon and later as a teacher at the Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design. On returning to Italy he moved to Ferrara, where since 2005 he has decided to focus his activities in the field of visual art. His research focuses mainly on the skin, which is interpreted as revealing the uniqueness of the individual. Particularly appreciated, both in strictly formal terms and under the technical virtuosity that they express, they are his works in which the skin of the subject is painted black and they are portrayed with the same colour background. The images he has realised have been exhibited in galleries and in museums in Italy and abroad. In this regard not least the inclusion of one of his photographs in the Farnesina Collection. Mustafa Sabbagh was dedicated the fifth instalment of the Sky Arte HD series Photographers, which implicitly defines him as one of the eight most significant artists of the contemporary Italian scene. He currently teaches courses at the Fondazione Fotografia Modena.
